PREMIERE OF “TAILS OF WASPS” BY NEW CENTURY THEATRE COMPANY

New Century Theatre Company’s premiere of TAILS OF WASPS was met with such great success.  It was directed by Darragh Kennan, and featuring the talents of Paul Morgan Stetler, Brenda Joyner, Betsy Schwartz, Sylvie Davidson, and Hannah Mootz.

It had wonderful preview articles in Seattle Magazine and City Arts Magazine.

REVIEWS ARE IN FOR TAILS OF WASPS

“New Century Theatre Company is getting hot and heavy with Stephanie Timm’s new work TAILS OF WASPS.  Having entered the ACT Theatre complex, the audience is set up for a fully encompassing experience; first checked in at a front desk, escorted through ‘the hotel,’ and finally keyed into a room…Inside, the audience perches like vultures around a detailed hotel room, about to be privy to a very intimate behind-the-scenes look into a politician’s extra-marital affair.  It is the front row seat that you are ashamed to admit you’ve always wanted.  Timm’s intelligent and sexy script gives the public a reason why politicians cheat on their perfectly acceptable wives.”

– Jasmine Joshua, The Examiner

“TAILS OF WASPS has it all—whip-smart dialogue, nuanced characters, formidable acting…It’s intoxicating and satisfying and leads you to ponder your own (real or imagined) indiscretions.”

– Florangela Davila, Crosscut.com

Brenda Joyner plays Rachel, and Paul Morgan Stetler plays Frank.

“It’s a must see primarily due to Ms Timm’s firm grasp of the material and its very concise construction…there’s no excess fat on this play…every word and moment in the script is very carefully placed and for a very specific reason. It’s constructed like a very clever house of cards with certain suits of cards referred to over and over again as the play progresses. The recurring themes and patterns of words and moments in TAILS OF WASPS reflect the playwright’s growing maturity as a writer. It’s outstanding dramatic writing.”

– Michael Strangeways, Seattle Gay Scene

“Timm’s portrait of a man who is commanding up front and yet crumbling inside, is ultimately empathetic. Frank’s post-rehabilitation backsliding with a cheap street prostitute who goes psycho on him is an utterly harrowing descent into the depths of self-loathing…One of the strengths of “Tails of Wasps” is its equal interest in tracking Frank’s complicated desires and letting strong female characters articulate their own needs.”

“I can’t think of a single word that would improve TAILS OF WASPS. This is a brilliant work.”

“Timm’s efficient, ruthless puncturing of male power fantasy roars to life in New Century Theatre Company’s engrossing staging, which achieves uncomfortable levels of intimacy in its hotel room set.”
